My work in ceramics draws on my attraction to whimsy and love of rich color. Earthenware is the clay I prefer for
handbuilding, with occasional use of wheel-thrown additions Generally of slab construction, my pieces are
decorated with underglazes, slips, stains, oxides and glazes and fired in oxidation.
I am strongly influenced by history, architecture, and the natural world. This manifests itself in an evolving
investigation of our connectedness to the places we inhabit and our interaction with nature and our relationship
to the past.
My current interest is in creating treasure boxes, which range in inspiration from castles to tree stumps, each
with drawer(s) in which one can store personal keepsakes. I aim for my work to be functional as well as
decorative so that it invites use.
